Who can apply to SD Hears?

Our program is for people of all ages who have a hearing loss and cannot afford
them due to hardship.


What are the eligibility requirements to be approved?

In order to qualify, you must have a diagnosed hearing loss and proven financial


What’s the first step to get started?

The first thing we need is an appointment to have your hearing tested.SD Hears is a partnership between the Watertown Lions Club and Professional Hearing Services. You can call Professional Hearing’s office at 605-882-1591 to set up an appointment for a Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation.


How will I know if I am approved?

After the hearing test, you will be given an application. Once you have completed and turned it in, it will be reviewed by the committee and submitted to the board for approval. Once approved, someone from the committee will contact you to set up an appointment.


Can I apply for someone other than myself?

You may assist someone else in filling out the application.The application includes financial information from the applicant so we need the applicant to provide requested documentation.


Do you have to be from South Dakota to apply to SD Hears?

Yes, our program is for residents of North East South Dakota. Other states have similar programs and we recommend using local resources for assistance.


Are there income requirements to be approved?

Yes, our program is need based. We ask for bank statements, tax returns and reasons for hardship. We also understand sometimes there are extraordinary circumstances such as a medical hardship and there is space on the application to describe the circumstances of your situation.


Will you share my application information with any third parties?

No. All of your application information is stored and saved in private HIPAA compliant storage. We do not share your information other than for the approval process and even then the identifying information is blacked out.


Is there follow-up care included for an approved applicant?

Yes. An approved applicant is given follow up care including appointments and batteries for one year following being fit with hearing aids. After that time, the candidate will have an opportunity to purchase an in-house warranty for another 2 years.
